Lena sells her olive oil soap as a 3-pack without creating a second product.

Lena sells natural cosmetics, and regular customers buy her olive oil soap several at a time anyway. A separate "3-pack" product would have needed a stock of its own that never matches the stock of the single bar. Instead the soap now carries two value packs: three bars for 17.90 euros and six for 32.90 euros, both from the same stock.

Creating the package

The soap is a component of itself.

A bundle always contains the product on whose page it appears, once. For a 3-pack you add the same product a second time as a component, with a quantity of two. Together that makes three bars of the same soap.

1

Add Bundle

Open the olive oil soap in the administration, switch to the "Bundles" tab and click "Add Bundle".

2

The same soap, quantity 2

Under "Add products to the bundle" you pick the soap itself and enter 2 in the "Quantity" column.

3

Fixed price

In the "Discount" tab you choose "Fixed price" and enter €17.90. The header calculates along: €20.70 total, €2.80 discount.

4

At the buy box

In the "Options" tab you set "Display" to "Below the add-to-cart button (right column)". Then the pack sits right below the button for the single bar.

On the product page

One line with three bars instead of one plus two.

Without any further setting the product page shows the pack exactly as you created it: one bar and two more next to it. With "Combine multiple father products" in the plugin configuration it becomes one tile marked "3x".

1

Out of the box

Two tiles of the same soap, one with 1x and one with 2x, and two lines in the details.

2

The switch

"Combine multiple father products" in the "Product detail page" card is off out of the box. It only applies to a "Full bundle"; a selectable bundle keeps two lines.

3

Combined

One tile with 3x and one line with three bars. The switch only changes what is shown, not price or stock.

4

Two packages on one soap

The 6-pack is a second bundle on the same soap, with a quantity of 5 and a fixed price of €32.90. Both appear one below the other.

Worked through

What the customer pays and saves.

A single bar costs 6.90 euros. Both packages have a fixed price; the product page works out the saving itself and shows it next to the instead-of price.

Olive oil soap, 100 g, as a packageDiscount type "Fixed price"
PackageBought singlyFixed priceCustomer savesPer bar
3-pack20.70 €17.90 €2.80 €5.97 €
6-pack41.40 €32.90 €8.50 €5.48 €

If the price of the single bar goes up, the fixed price stays where it is and the saving grows. If it drops so far that three bars bought singly cost less than 17.90 euros, the package becomes invalid and is removed from the cart. So check the fixed price whenever you change the price of the bar.

Cart and stock

One line item in the cart, one product in the warehouse.

Because the pack consists of the same product, the cart carries the three bars as one line item with a quantity of three. In the order the soap appears as in any single purchase, with three bars and the discount line.

Inside the package the olive oil soap appears once with a quantity of 3, and below it the "Bundle discount" of €2.80. That holds with and without the switch for combining.

If the customer counts the package up to 2 in the cart, it becomes six bars at twice the package price.

With the order the stock of the soap drops by three. The pack has no stock of its own, so it cannot drift away from the stock of the soap either.

Telling them apart

A 3-pack or a quantity discount through tier prices?

Shopware has tier prices built in: in the "Advanced pricing" tab of a product, a lower unit price from a certain quantity. The pack is something else, and the two can be combined.

Two routes to a quantity discountPack as a bundle against a tier price from Shopware
Question3-pack as a bundleTier price
Where is the offer?as a package of its own at the buy box or in the descriptionas a price per quantity range on the product
How does the customer buy?one click puts three bars in the cartthey set the quantity themselves
What do they see?instead-of price and savingthe unit price per quantity
Which quantities?the packages you create, such as 3 and 6any quantity in the range

Both together work: the cart prices the three bars in the package at the tier price for three, and the bundle discount comes on top. With "Fixed price" that means: if the total at tier prices falls below the fixed price, the cart takes the package out. So set the fixed price below the tier total.

You create a pack in the "Bundles" tab of the product. In a general bundle under Catalogues, Bundles the setting "Automatically remove duplicate father product" (on out of the box) removes exactly the component that matches the product of the page, and general bundles only calculate with a percentage discount.

Common questions

How do I offer the same product as a 3-pack?

In the "Bundles" tab of the product you create a bundle and add the product itself as a component with a quantity of two. Together with the product of the page that makes three. You set the price as a fixed price, a percentage or an amount.

Do I need a separate product for the 3-pack?

No. The pack is a bundle on the existing product, with no product of its own in the catalogue and no stock of its own. What is sold is the single bar, and its stock drops by three.

What does the customer see in the cart?

The package as one line item, with the soap underneath at a quantity of three and the "Bundle discount" line. If they count the package up, quantity and discount grow with it.

Can I offer a 3-pack and a 6-pack on the same product?

Yes. A product can carry as many bundles as you like. For the 6-pack you add the same soap with a quantity of five; both packages appear one below the other on the product page.

What is the difference to a quantity discount through tier prices?

A tier price lowers the unit price as soon as the customer raises the quantity themselves. The pack is a ready-made offer with instead-of price and saving that lands in the cart in one click. The two can be combined; a fixed price then has to stay below the total at tier prices.

Does a multipack work as a general bundle too?

Create it on the product. In general bundles the setting "Automatically remove duplicate father product", on out of the box, removes the component that matches the product of the page. General bundles also only calculate with a percentage discount.
